The theme of the programme is “African migration a chance for the media”.
The programme is expected to give wide angle views concerning the issue of migration.
On the 2nd October 2018, a press conference was held in Casablanca with Salim Cheikh, Managing Director of the 2M Group, and Fathia Elaouni, Senior Editor-in-Chief in charge of Radio 2M Broadcast, in attendance.
They noted that, “this event is, for us, a natural extension of the values carried by the channel and especially that which is dear to us and concerns the legitimate place of women in our societies and more particularly in our region. (Africa).”
Women journalists in Africa faced challenges
For instance in the United Kingdom, a long-term net migration has continued to add to the UK population. Underlying this, long-term immigration and long-term emigration were around 610,000 and 340,000 respectively.
The 2018 edition was organised to look into how media has consistently treated migration issues and how it has been widely reported because the duty of the media is to educate and inform people on the dangers associated with migration.
The 2nd edition of the Les panafricaines forum will present a debate on the theme “From one bank to another, for a fair look at migrants”.
The meeting will also feature prominent migration experts such as Larry Macaulay (Nigeria), founder and editor-in-chief of Refugee Radio Network in Hamburg, Germany, Rafaella Consentino (Italy), reporter for the TV channel.
Rai “specializes in migration issues, Driss El Yazami (Morocco), President of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH), and Patrick Otim (Uganda), a specialist in migration and member of the organization” Refugee Law Project In Kampala.
Samira Sitaïl, Deputy Managing Director in charge of information and magazines of 2M, will moderate the discussion.
